My story
Prior to professionally entering accounting and finance search, I was both a candidate and a client of many search firms over the years. While in the accounting profession and while in strategic procurement and supply chain roles, my experience with search firms was not very impressive.
As a candidate, I found that even after speaking with recruiters at length about my career goals and preferences, they would present me with opportunities that were inconsistent with our initial discussion. They brought me opportunities that I had no interest in, and at times tried to convince me to interview for the roles anyway. Many never contacted me again after being unable to convince me to interview for a role that made no sense for me.
As a client, I found that after an in-depth meeting about an open position for which I was hiring, the search firm often sent me resumes that were not aligned with the search criteria. It often seemed to be quantity over quality, or actually no quality at all. I’d receive a large number of resumes only to find out by speaking with the candidates that the search firm had not thoroughly vetted them for the role.
Disrupting the status quo
Understandably I did not have a good impression of the search industry, and I never thought in a million years that I would be part of it. After deciding to leave traditional corporate roles behind for something more entrepreneurial, I was intrigued by the possibility of disrupting what seemed to be the status quo within accounting and finance search. I decided to leverage my foundational experience in Big 4 and corporate accounting and my past experience working with search firms to approach this business differently.
From the beginning, I have placed my emphasis on developing genuine and long-term relationships with my clients and candidates. I listen to them, I share my expert guidance, and I do what I say I’m going to do. They trust me. I am grateful to have built an extensive network filled with many long-term relationships, including candidates and clients with whom I’ve worked for many years.
